Community efforts are another factor in economic development enhancing the quality of life for our county. When you support and shop local this holiday season, you are helping our county, your community, and we retain and recycle community dollars.

Small Businesses Matter

Small business is an umbrella term for restaurants, retail, and service-based entrepreneurs. “This year, we know that small businesses need our support now more than ever as they navigate, retool, and pivot from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic” - SBA. Small businesses embody and help shape the culture of our community. The more we support them, the more they will support us by:

  • Creating jobs
  • Reducing environmental impacts
  • Offering lower pricing due to reduced overhead cost
  • Enriching our community’s identity

Support comes in many forms and often times the best form is acknowledgment. If you aren’t shopping this holiday season, stop by your favorite, local small business and let them know how much you appreciate their presence and business. Give a card that simply says, “Thank you for being here.”

Shopping Locally

Shopping locally benefits the community year-round. November annually starts the biggest shopping season thanks to the end-of-year holidays. When residents, their guests, and visitors support and shop local they:

  • Support entrepreneurial dreams
  • Encourage innovation
  • Create relationships with business owners
  • Strengthen business-customer relationships
  • Strengthen the community’s identity
  • Find unique gifts for loved ones and co-workers
  • Reinvest and repurpose community dollars

As you shop this holiday season and next year, remember your local retailers and service providers. Also, gift cards are a great gift and support for your favorite local restaurant, retail store, and service provider.
