100 years ago: Red Bluff Rodeo starts with a whoop

The world’s greatest bronc riders, astride some of the wildest, toughest outlaw horses to be found anywhere that jump and buck in zigzag fashion, was the spectacular and hazardous performance that marked the opening this afternoon of the four days Rodeo program of the Red Bluff Roundup Association.

A vast crowd poured through the gates at an early hour, to be on hand at 1 o’clock, when the program started, to see the noted cowboys compete in hair-raising contests for the championships in bucking, bull ruling, mule riding, bulldogging, horse racing and girls’ horse racing, the first events in the biggest Roundup ever held.
