Have you taken an art class with Lacy Wilson at From the Hearth or Cedar Crest Brewing? Well now you can visit her studio in Downtown Red Bluff!
With Paint and Sips becoming the norm in the artist community, Lacy knew she wanted to do something more. She wanted to have her own space, a place to display and share her art with the community. It was scary, she knew it would be a lot of work and if she waited around for the “perfect time” it wouldn’t come. So she put aside her fears and opened her studio in April 2019. “You can’t let fear stop you from following your dreams,'' she explained as she told us about her road to business ownership.
Art and horses have been a constant in her life since she was young. She picked up a paintbrush at seven and has never given up on her art. She got her first horse and sold her first painting at twelve. Even with this drive for success starting at a young age she was constantly told she couldn’t make money with art and needed a backup plan. Lacy taught pottery for 2 years, waitressed and tried attending college for art, but couldn’t keep herself out of the studio. It was where she wanted to be. “Art saved my life, you can put headphones on and disappear into another place. It’s therapeutic and at the end, you have a piece of art you are proud of.” said Lacy.
Since deciding to dedicate her time to art, she has been persistent with getting the community on board. She met Erin Bianchi, owner of the former Cook kitchen store, who gave her a chance with her first painting class. Three people showed up and she was absolutely thrilled. Shortly after she met John Dix with From the Hearth. He loved her story and decided to bring her in for a painting class. This time, 15 people showed up! She couldn’t believe it, it was finally catching on. She continued holding painting parties at local businesses for two years. She has loved building relationships with local business owners and showing people that they can create a beautiful piece of art when they come to a class doubting themselves.
Becoming a business owner and opening her studio has been an amazing learning experience for Lacy. She has built everything in her business on her own, the website, social media, and does all her own photo editing and design. Lacy sells art from her studio, offers private painting parties, holds classes in her studio and painting events at local businesses such as, From the Hearth or Cedar Crest Brewing. You also may have seen a few of her murals around town, most recently the river-themed mural on the side of Copy Center on Antelope Boulevard or the new wild blue mural in the backroom of Cedar Crest Brewing. She hopes to see murals popping up all over town and would love to see other artists join the local art movement. “You want multiple artists working together on something like this so that you see different styles in each piece.” Lacy said.
When she isn’t in her studio painting or conducting an art class, she trains wild horses and spends time with her family. Her dream is to have a big, beautiful building and a community of artists working together and holding classes. She wants to keep working to grow the artist community in Red Bluff and share her love of art with us all.
